Frequently asked questions
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Currently, Students 4th - 12th Grades may participate in choir or band. (Mrs. Castle will be co-teaching music and art appreciation for grades 1-3 at the Young Explorers Co-op, currently at Jackson Free Methodist Church, and also music and performance arts at Young PIONEERS for grades 2-5.)
Parents must be members of J.A.H.E., just like PIONEERS, Young Explorers, and Frontiers, J.A.H.E. provides our insurance and organizational oversight. We can help with registration for J.A.H.E.
All levels of musical experience are welcome!
(Younger ages may be accepted on a student by student basis, however, a parent or guardian MUST remain on-site for all students younger than 4th grade.)
WHAT CLASSES ARE AVAILABLE?
Beginning Choir class for grades 4-6. We learn to sing using correct vocal techniques and will work on unison and 2-part harmony.
Concert Choir for grades 7-12 will expand on their knowledge of correct vocal production, note reading and theory, and working on music using 2, 3, and 4 part harmony. We will also have featured soloists.
Beginning Band (Level 1-2) and Concert Band (Level 3-4) classes are available for 4th-12th grades.
All Classes will include ear training, theory and music appreciation.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO PARTICIPATE AND WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE?

~We now allow students to enroll in Band without the Choir requirement.
Included with tuition fees:
~Weekly rehearsals which include music reading, theory terms and concepts, stage presence and performance poise, proper singing and breathing techniques, and improved listening skills.

~ Solo, and ensemble performance opportunities at JAHE Presentation Night at the end of the school year.

~Band students should each have a pencil and a spit rag in their cases.
~NOT INCLUDED in the fees: instrument rental as well as reeds, oil, or cleaning kits appropriate for that instrument. NOTE* Beginning the Fall of 2020, all band members will purchase their band curriculum books. Mrs. Yeiter will be able to purchase the books and distribute them for convenience, but the book fee will be added to the registration forms. Additional sheet music will be borrowed and expected to be returned in good condition.
~ Limited instrument rentals available through the band for 15-30$ per semester. Please ask for details.
